PUB and bar operators have a chance to boost profits by pairing drinks popular with female customers with appropriate snacks, according to Sun Valley Nut Co.

The nuts and dried fruits supplier commissioned a study which found that 80% of the female drinkers surveyed would like to see more varied snacks paired with their favourite drinks.

Prosecco was said to be the most popular drinks choice (22%), followed by beer (20%), cider (18%), gin (16%) and wine (11%).

Sun Valley has launched a range of nut mixes designed to complement Prosecco, gin and craft beer.

Alison Robson, marketing manager at Sun Valley Nut Co, said: “Alcoholic drinks and nuts have, for many years, gone hand in hand, yet there has arguably been an explosion in the popularity of craft beer and Prosecco and heightened consumer interest in gin varieties.”

Robson added that as a “male-orientated” category, there is an opportunity for publicans to “entice more females into an incremental snack purchase”.
