Whisky bottler in festive spirit

Douglas Laing & Co releases Big Peat Christmas 2018

For peat’s sake: Douglas Laing & Co’s Big Peat festive release is bottled at 53.9% ABV

INDEPENDENT Glasgow-based whisky bottler Douglas Laing & Co is once more in the festive spirit with the launch of Big Peat Christmas edition.

The annual limited edition release is bottled at 53.9% cask strength and is “notably offered without colouring or chill filtration”.

Cara Laing, director of whisky at the family firm, said the Christmas release offers consumers a bold and intriguing flavour profile.

“You can expect a big, ashy, beachy, oceanic and smoky message in the bottle, all the way from the island of Islay,” said Laing.

“During the festive season, that chimney soot connection seems particularly appropriate, being the entry point of our gift-laden Saint Nick  himself.”

She added: “Big Peat’s Christmas limited edition has become truly synonymous with the season, setting us up nicely as we prepare to celebrate his tenth birthday in 2019.”

The limited edition release comes as the family firm celebrates its 70th anniversary – and in the wake of plans to open a new distillery on the banks of Glasgow’s river Clyde.

The company has submitted plans for a £10.7 million distillery on the banks of the Clyde, which it will name the Clutha Distillery; ‘Clutha’ is Gaelic for ‘Clyde’.

The project will include a corporate head office, distillery, visitor centre, bottling complex, whisky archive and bar/bistro and, if approved, should be completed for autumn 2019.
