PUB giant JD Wetherspoon is to cut the price of food, soft drinks and hot drinks in its Scottish pubs by 7.5% on Tax Equality Day (September 13) in a bid to highlight the impact of a VAT reduction in the hospitality sector.
Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin is calling on other pub and restaurant operators to do the same, saying a cut in the rate of VAT for the hospitality sector “can help address this unfairness and allow pubs and bars to invest in their businesses and staff members”.
