The west is the best in golf tourney

A TEAM of publicans from Glasgow were the victors when licensed trade golf clubs from across Scotland competed for the National Guardian Trophy.

Glasgow Licensed Trade Golf Club won this year’s competition, held at Irvine Golf Club – home course of the Glasgow team – in what was the 121st year of the contest. The Glasgow club, also known as St Mungo Golf Club, is even older, having been established in 1891.

Teams from Glasgow, Dundee, Edinburgh and Fife competed this year.

The tournament wasn’t the only noteworthy event to take place at Irvine Golf Club in recent weeks.

A cabaret held at the club – and organised by St Mungo Golf Club – raised £1000 to help develop Irvine Golf Club’s junior section.
