Group turns up heat on training

MANORVIEW Hotels & Leisure Group is to introduce cookery qualifications at its training academy in a bid to encourage more young chefs to pursue it as a career.

The group, which operates nine hotels including Boclair House in Bearsden and Cornhill Castle in Biggar, will add the SVQ Professional Cookery Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications. It comes as the group reported an increase in the number of young people coming through its training academy; a total of 55 apprentices completed qualifications in the past year, and the group aims to increase that to 65 in the next 12 months.

Robi Giovino, assessor and verifier for Manorview’s training academy, said: “We want to provide that pathway for young chefs to follow a passion and to see becoming a chef as a career choice.”
