A trip worth making

THE Three Chimneys on the Isle of Skye has been rated as one of the UK’s top five restaurants by travel site Tripadvisor.

Scott Davies, head chef at The Three Chimneys, paid tribute to the restaurant’s staff and suppliers.

Announced today (October 11) as part of the site’s annual Travellers’ Choice Awards for Restaurants, The Three Chimneys was listed as the number five restaurant in the UK. Tripadvisor said the list is designed “to celebrate the best-rated fine dining establishments around the world”; it is based on the standard of reviews over a 12 month period, as opposed to a judging panel.

The restaurant was also recently named UK Restaurant of the Year in the Good Food Guide and also won the AA’s Food Service Award.

Commenting on the listing Scott Davies, head chef at The Three Chimneys, paid tribute to the restaurant’s staff and suppliers.

“What I really want to say is thanks,” he said.

“Thanks to all of Team Three Chimneys for their hard graft, which has helped to achieve these prestigious awards. Thanks to all my suppliers for consistently providing me with the very best that Skye and Scotland has to offer, and thanks to all our guests for their loyalty and patronage over so many years.”

Shirley Spear, who owns the Skye-based restaurant with husband Eddie, said that she is “staggered at the consistency of great reviews we have received for our food and all-round experience since head chef Scott Davies joined the business”.

“The relationship between every head chef and his restaurant manager is vital and Petri Pentikainen is wonderful in this role,” said Shirley.

“I am immensely proud of the whole team for being rated so highly as a fine dining restaurant.”

Aizle on Edinburgh’s Leonard’s Street was named as the tenth-best restaurant in the UK by the site.
