A charity tour de force

AN intrepid team of cyclists from across the Scottish licensed trade has completed an 80-mile sponsored cycle, raising more than £2000 for industry charity The Ben.

Ignoring poor weather and sore legs, the cyclists travelled from The Ben estate in Pitlochry to Aberfeldy, onto Killin, stopping briefly in Callander before pushing on to the Golden Lion hotel in Stirling.

The team, led by trade stalwart Bob Taylor, comprised Steve Graham, Steve Buckley and Kenny Barclay from Manorview Hotels; David McGowan, Steve McCarney and Jamie Blackwood from Broughton Brewery (with Cheryl Anson in support); John Hutchison from Heineken; Michele Pagliocca from the Butterfly and the Pig and Roberto Cechini from Babbo’s.

Ben chief executive, Chris Gardner, said: “My hat goes off to all of the participants; the weather was awful, more like winter than summer with the driving rain, and they all took part with a smile and great banter.
“Well done to you all, what an achievement! You should be proud of yourselves and thanks for supporting the Ben and our beneficiaries. It is very much appreciated.”

The funds will be used to support the various charitable activities of The Ben, which offers social, financial and emotional support to former and current members of the licensed trade who are experiencing difficulties.
