Young amateurs ready to go pro

Twenty young, unemployed people from Fife and the Highlands are preparing for careers in hospitality after graduating from Diageo’s Learning for Life programme.

• The Fife group of graduates celebrate.

The Diageo Learning for Life: Hospitality and Bartending scheme enables young job-seekers to learn key skills that employers look for in the hospitality sector.
It includes two weeks of work experience in hospitality businesses, as well as various trade-related trips, which allow students to expand their knowledge of the industry.

Nicola Reid, programme manager for Diageo Learning for Life, said the training was already showing great results for participants and for employers.

“We’re excited to see the graduates progress into rewarding careers in the industry and putting their newfound skills to good use,” said Reid.

“Working in hospitality offers excellent opportunities for driven young people and the programme continues to attract interest from local businesses, some of which have already offered students full time employment.”
