A CAPITAL events venue has set a gold standard for sustainability after being awarded the highest accolade in an environmental tourism accreditation scheme.
Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms was awarded the ‘gold’ rating by Green Tourism for showing a “continued commitment to the sustainability agenda”.
The council-owned venue, which is celebrating its 230th anniversary this year, was recognised for energy and water efficiency, waste management and community involvement.
Culture convenor for the City of Edinburgh Council, Richard Lewis, said the grading demonstrated how seriously the council was taking environmental issues.
“We firmly believe in taking responsibility for our carbon footprint and are constantly pushing our venues to develop our green credentials, proving that a fantastic building and great event doesn’t have to cost the earth,” he said.
