Life’s a beach for island pub staff

STAFF from two island pubs swapped the west coast of Scotland for Miami Beach earlier this month after winning an employee incentive scheme.

• Cheers: Eilidh, Rebecca and Neil in Miami.

Eilidh Darroch from The Lochside in Bowmore on Islay and Rebecca Armstrong from Macgochans in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull were voted for by their colleagues as winners of the initiative, which is run by Macgochans and Lochside owner Neil Morrison.

Eilidh and Rebecca travelled with Neil to Miami to get a taste for American customer service, taking in a city tour before experiencing the bars and restaurants of Miami Beach.

Eilidh said the trip “certainly didn’t disappoint”, while Rebecca described it as a “wonderful opportunity”.

Neil said the incentive, which is now in its third year, helps boost customer service and teamwork in his venues.
“It works really well; the staff vote for who they think deserves it,” he told SLTN. “It’s good for the staff – they get to experience the customer service in the States which helps to raise standards when they get home.”
