COURVOISIER is to launch its second annual Toast of Paris global cocktail competition – and Scottish bartenders are being invited to attend a masterclass in Edinburgh for a briefing on the challenge being laid down by the Cognac house this year.

Courvoisier global brand ambassador Rebecca Asseline will host the event at Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh on February 28 where, in addition to learning more about the brand, bartenders will be given the details of year’s competition.

Called Le Jour et la Nuit de Courvoisier, which translates as ‘the day and night of Courvoisier’, the second annual Toast of Paris comp is inviting bartenders to create two cocktails tailored to separate occasions: one aperitif-style drink and a cocktail inspired by Parisian nightlife.

Bartenders who want to enter the Toast of Paris competition should contact their Maxxium UK representative or email events.uk@maxxium.com; entries will close on March 3.
A regional heat will then be held in Edinburgh on March 28 before the UK final in London this April, where the winner will book their place in the global final, which will take place in Paris in May.

Those who mix their way into the final will battle it out for the prize of a bespoke blend of Courvoisier presented in an engraved crystal decanter. All finalists will also travel to the Courvoisier Chateau in Jarnac, France.

Johna Penman, brands marketing controller at Maxxium UK, the firm behind Courvoisier in the UK, said the Toast of Paris competition is designed to encourage the use of Courvoisier in “innovative serves”.

“This year in the UK, the competition is expanding to include regional heats to encourage even more bartenders to come up with their interpretation of this epic time period through cocktails,” said Penman.

“The on-trade is an increasingly important segment of the business and Maxxium UK continues to invest in education and engagement as we are dedicated to supporting the UK’s number one Cognac.”
