ABERDEEN licensing board has rejected a bid for extended hours from the firm behind nightclub Redemption that would have seen it become the city’s first club open until 4am.
Representatives of Epic Group argued that Aberdeen’s nightclub industry is faced with increasingly tough trading conditions, with competition from both an increase in the number of pubs being granted late licences as well as casinos trading as de facto late night bars.
Grant Wiseman, operations manager for Epic Group, said the nightclub industry is being “squeezed and squeezed”.
“You’ve got more and more pubs open to two o’clock and hybrid pubs that are open until three,” he said. “The investment for us is much greater than a traditional bar.”
Aberdeen licensing board said it would not comment on the case while the applicant could still lodge an appeal.
