GLENEAGLES mixologist Joe Harper has been named the most promising bartender in the UK by Bacardi after fighting off competition from across the country to earn his place in the Legacy Cocktail Competition global final.

Harper duked it out with other regional winners in the Northern European final held at 1 Embankment in London on Tuesday November 8.

The mixologist, who can be found making cocktails at The Century Bar at Gleneagles, will now embark on a five-month campaign to promote his winning cocktail, Pilar, before taking part in the grand final in Berlin on May 24, 2017.

Harper said the Northern European final was an “incredible night” and praised the talent of his fellow competitors.

“I am really proud of my creation and Bacardi Carta Blanca is such a great and versatile rum that makes an excellent base ingredient,” he said.

“I will work hard over the next few months to make the most of this opportunity and promote Pilar ahead of Berlin and do this for the UK.

“The best is yet to come.”

Bacardi brand ambassador for the UK Metinee Kongsrivalai congratulated all the UK finalists and Harper for his “incredibly high quality” drink.

“The judges had a tough job choosing between all the fantastic cocktails, but Pilar’s fresh and exuberant twist on the Airmail and Missonary’s Downfall cocktails really stood out.

“We wish Joe the very best of luck and look forward to working with [him] to promote Pilar over the next few months,” said Kongsrivalai.
