TOURISM businesses on Skye and Orkney are set to gain from the islands’ starring roles in summer blockbuster The BFG.
VisitScotland suggested that the islands could receive a boost in visitor numbers as fans are inspired to explore the landscapes featured in the film.
The BFG, which hit cinemas on July 22, features shots of Skye, including the Quiraing, the Old Man of Storr, the Cullins, the Faerie Glen and the Shiant Islands, as well as aerial shots of the Old Man of Hoy on Orkney as the homeland of the Big Friendly Giant.
“It is fantastic to see The BFG join a long list of memorable movies to feature our incredible offshore locations, which have been seen in everything from science-fiction classics to fantasy blockbusters,” said VisitScotland chief executive Malcolm Roughead.
