MORE than 100 women from across the Scottish licensed trade attended The Ben’s Cupcakes and Cocktails event, raising £2600 for the charity.
The third annual event, which took place in Glasgow’s Oran Mor on April 30, included cocktails by Maxxium UK and Pernod Ricard, Pongracz from Distell and cupcakes from Dunns Food and Drinks.
The event included a panel discussion with Cleo Rocos of Aqua Riva tequila, Cape Wine Master Berenice Barker and SLTN editor Gillian McKenzie, hosted by Matthew Clark’s Iain McPherson; a ‘pamper room’; prize draw; and entertainment from Oran Mor performers.
The event came as past president David McGowan said The Ben is in “good health”. During his presidency six new trustees, including SLTN sales director Lucie Cooney, joined; a new strategy to “position The Ben at the heart of the community” was drawn up; and the charity sought new ways to help people who have fallen on hard times, including giving the pensioners it supports an extra £150 in its 150th year and implementing a year-long rent freeze for its Pitlochry bungalows.
“I’m particularly pleased with The Ben’s progress in the past year,” said McGowan. “Some of the measures introduced will, I hope, future-proof The Ben.”
