GOING to the pub remains the number one leisure activity for UK adults, claims a new study from brewer Carlsberg UK.
The company’s Consumer Insights Report 2014 claimed that 34% of UK consumers continue to regularly visit pubs.
This compared to 31% going to retail locations, 30% choosing coffee shops and 20% using the gym. Restaurants ranked at 17% and 6% visited the cinema.
The popularity of bars among 18 to 25 year olds fell from 42% in 2010 to 36% this year, however.
The research quizzed almost 2000 pub and bar users.
Kathryn Purchase, director of customer marketing at Carlsberg UK, said: “The findings of our research are good news for the on-trade.
“Even in the face of negative press surrounding the prospects for pubs and bars, average weekly visits have increased.
“Pubs and bars remain central to people’s leisure choices and are by far the favourite out-of-home activity for the UK adult.”
