THE firm behind OVD rum has launched the second iteration of its Discover the Dark Side of Rum cocktail competition.

The contest, which was first introduced last year to promote the use of the rum in cocktails, is open exclusively to Scottish bartenders, with a cash prize of £1000 up for grabs.
The competition will feature regional heats in Edinburgh (on October 22), Glasgow (on October 23) and the north east (on October 30), with the top three entrants from each heat earning a place in the grand final.
Bartenders can enter via ovdrum.co.uk; the deadline for entries is October 10.
“Last year was the first time we have promoted OVD as a cocktail ingredient and we were blown away by the enthusiasm of the bartenders and the amazing drinks they devised using our brand,” said Paul Curry, William Grant & Sons UK brand manager for OVD. “OVD is a great tasting product and mixes really well.
“To keep things interesting we are looking for this year’s competitors to use OVD in cocktails they feel will appeal to customers during the colder months.”
The competition will also be promoted to consumers through radio and press promotions and sampling activity.
“I hope that some of last year’s competitors will choose to rise to the challenge again this time around and that they will be joined by a host of new talent ready to put their mixing skills to the test,” said Curry.
