THE Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) is calling for the legal case over minimum pricing to be transferred to Europe.
The organisation has been challenging the introduction of a minimum unit price for alcohol through the Court of Session, but is now arguing the case should be transferred to the European Court of Justice immediately. It has called on the Scottish Government to request a transfer.
“We expect MUP to ultimately be considered by the ECJ,” said a SWA spokeswoman. “It would speed up the process if the government would agree without our request to refer it to Europe.”
