Chef set to open first restaurant in Scotland
CELEBRITY chef Marco Pierre White is to launch his first restaurant in Scotland later this month.
The Michelin Star holder has joined forces with the Aston Hotel in Dumfries to bring his Wheeler’s of St. James’s brand north of the border.
Serving a combination of British and French cuisine, Wheeler’s of St James’s Dumfries will open its doors on November 28.
The 70-cover venue, which will also have a private dining area that can accommodate 40 people, is said to represent a ÂŁ400,000 investment and is expected to create ten jobs.
Pierre White said he had been looking for a Scottish location for his Wheeler’s brand for some time.
“The brand’s signature is elegant restaurants with a comfortable dining experience, which the new location will allow for perfectly,” he said.
“Our menus offer seasonal produce, sourced locally wherever possible, and Scotland has a magnificent larder for our chefs to choose from. We hope that visitors from the local area and further afield will find Wheeler’s a fantastic place to relax and enjoy great food – that’s job done for my team and I.”
Jason Hiley, operations director of Dominvs Hospitality, which owns the Aston Hotel Dumfries, said the opening of Wheeler’s is part of the redevelopment of the hotel, which will see its kitchen, bar and restaurant refurbished.
“The refurbishment will include new furniture, décor and Marco’s signature collection of pictures and cartoon drawings,” he said.
“Many of our team in Dumfries have been fans of Marco’s since they started their careers in restaurants, so they are honoured to be working with him and bringing his brand to life in Scotland.”
The Aston Hotel restaurant will be the 11th to open under the Wheeler’s of St James’s brand, which includes nine in England and one in Dubai.
