FA blocks streaming website

THE Football Association Premier League (FAPL) has successfully applied to have internet service providers block access to a website that offers free access to live sports coverage.

Earlier this month the UK High Court ordered six providers – BSkyB, BT, Everything Everywhere, Talktalk, Telefonica UK and Virgin Media – to block access to FirstRow Sport, a website that provides free access to streams of sporting events including Premier League football matches.
In his judgement Mr Justice Arnold of the High Court agreed with the FAPL that the site was broadcasting copyrighted material without the permission of the rights holders, which include FAPL as well as organisations such as the Scottish Premier League, PGA European Tour and Rugby Football Union.
It was claimed that the website was being used to show live sporting events in pubs as well as private residences.
