The Famous Grouse Famous Pubs 2011

The Famous Grouse launches campaign to find the UK’s most famous pub

Following on from the success of The Famous Grouse Famous Pubs campaign last year The Famous Grouse, Scotland’s best selling Blended Scotch Whisky*, is launching a new search for 2011. The hunt will look for famous pubs around the UK that are celebrated for their unique reasons for fame, just like The Famous Grouse.
The Famous Grouse Famous Pubs 2011 campaign will see the iconic whisky brand call on landlords and pub goers from around the UK to share with the nation what makes their pub famous at www.telegraph.co.uk/famousgrouse. It could be a quirky history, a famous punter, a local legend or a fascinating fact and the best entries will be selected as part of a campaign backed by significant investment from Maxxium UK.
Last year’s finalists included: King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, the discovery place of some of the UK’s biggest names in music including Oasis; The Neuadd Arms in Wales, famous for hosting the renowned World Bog Snorkelling Championships each year; and The Robin Hood in Brighton, a pub that gives all of its profits to charity.
Paul Waterson, President of the Scottish Licensed Trade Association (SLTA), will sit on the judging panel this year alongside Jim Grierson and Andy Gemmell.
Jim Grierson, on trade sales director at Maxxium UK, distributors of The Famous Grouse, commented: “The Famous Grouse is committed to leading the way in blended Scotch by bringing exciting and engaging initiatives to the on trade. We believe in the on trade, we want to support them and that’s why we are thrilled to announce the launch of The Famous Grouse Famous Pubs campaign this year. Publicans have long been supportive of our fame and we wanted to do something to celebrate theirs.”
Andy Gemmell, Maxxium UK’s leading mixologist and familiar face on STV’s The Hour, added: “The Famous Grouse Famous Pubs campaign is about finding fantastic pubs throughout the country that are famous for a reason and celebrating them. The campaign is a great reward initiative for the on trade and was a huge success last year, with hundreds of nominations received, so I urge publicans to get involved, nominate their pub and share the reason for its fame.”
Each winning pub will receive a personalised limited edition plaque to honour this achievement, and will feature in a special supplement that will run in The Sunday Telegraph.
The closing date for nominations is the 18th September and the campaign is not restricted to pubs but welcomes nominations for all establishments with a licensed bar.
The Famous Grouse family is continuing to grow at pace with two new premium products launched this year – The Snow Grouse, the first blended whisky designed to be served straight from the freezer, and The Naked Grouse, a deluxe blend containing two of the world’s most renowned malts, Highland Park and The Macallan, which are slow matured in expensive first fill sherry casks.
