Glasgow is seeking a ‘night-time economy manager’ to help lead the city’s ‘exciting and dynamic’ after-dark scene.
The new role – the first of its kind in Scotland – has a remit to work with the newly established Night-Time Economy Commission and boost Glasgow’s reputation as a leading international nightlife destination.
Employed by Glasgow City Council, the night-time economy manager will act as the ‘vital link’ between the local authority, hospitality and entertainment operators and key stakeholders to drive practical improvements which enhance the after-dark offer.
Once the right candidate has been found, the new night manager will get to work supporting the sector’s leadership at a difficult time, when nightlife operators continue to face significant challenges around operating costs, transport, regulation and changing consumer behaviour.
Priorities will include implementing emerging action plans from the Commission, advocating for the sector, and working with partners to improve public safety, transport connectivity and the overall customer experience.

The new commission itself is led by Mike Grieve, managing director of Sub Club and chair of the Scottish Night-Time Industries Association.
It also includes representatives from DF Concerts, Glasgow Life, leading licensing lawyers and representatives from sectoral organisations including the Music Venues Trust.
Grieve said: “Cities across the world are increasingly recognising the value of their night-time economies and the need for dedicated leadership to help them thrive.
“Glasgow already has the venues, talent and creativity that make it one of the UK’s great night-time destinations. As the UKs’ first UNESCO City of Music, the city benefits from an enviable heritage which provides the ideal platform to raise the bar even higher on our famed hospitality and nightlife.
“This role is an opportunity to bring people together, tackle long-standing challenges and help make Glasgow an even better place to work, perform, visit and enjoy after dark.”
The successful candidate is expected to have experience of working in, and in-depth knowledge of, the night-time economy, an understanding of the relevant policy and regulatory environment, and a strong understanding of local government structures, decision-making and political context.
Cllr Angus Millar, co-chair of the cross-sectoral City Centre Taskforce, said: “This is a genuinely exciting and generational opportunity to shape the future of Glasgow’s world class night-time offer.
“With the Commission, we’ve got the respected and expert voices to champion for positive change. The night-time manager will be absolutely key to delivering that change.
“The role demands knowledge and experience of how both the night-time economy and local government work and solid ideas of how they can work together better.
He added: “This is a hugely attractive and influential post which, I’m sure, will trigger interest from across Scotland and further afield.”
