A well-known Dundee pub has been brought back to life by a veteran local operator after years of closure.
The Charleston Bar was closed after its roof was damaged by Storm Arwen in 2021.

Last year, the property was acquired by trade veteran Jimmy Marr’s City Centre Pubs business and subsequently underwent a six-figure refurbishment.

It reopened last month offering food, live music and live sport as well as a darts board. The Charleston area at one time boasted four pubs but one by one they have all disappeared, further reinforcing the significance of the Charleston’s return.
It was officially reopened by former landlady Etta Maxwell, who attended the launch event and cut the ribbon in front of a crowd of locals.
Marr said the pub is family-friendly and ‘will be a really great thing to bring back to the community here’.
“Everyone in the area is talking about it and already asking about making bookings for the function suite, which will open (in October),” said Marr.
