Unfestive thief steals Nutcracker statue from Copper Blossom

A thief has stolen an eight-foot tall Christmas Nutcracker statue from outside Edinburgh city centre cocktail bar, Copper Blossom.

The giant festive ornament was taken from the gateway of the George Street venue at around 22:10 on Tuesday 25th November. The theft – in which the robber used an e-bike to make their getaway with the unwieldy statue across their knee – was recorded on CCTV, footage of which has been shared with Police Scotland.

The Copper Blossom team is now calling for the festive statue, named ‘Nolan’, to be returned and reunited with his fellow Nutcracker soldier ‘Nelson’ – who together make up a seasonal display which annually attracts people to the site for insta-friendly photos.

General manager Paul Paxton said: “We put a lot of time, effort and expense into our Christmas decorations at Copper Blossom to create a spectacular winter wonderland for all our guests.

“Our Christmas Nutcracker statues take pride of place as part of our seasonal celebrations, so not only has someone stolen one of our favourite decorations, but they’ve also stolen the spirit of Christmas, too!

“We’re now calling on the culprit to return our Christmas Nutcracker ‘Nolan’ and restore our special touch of festive magic. If Nolan is returned in one piece, then no further action will be taken, but the culprit is definitely on Santa’s naughty list!”

Copper Blossom is part of the Edinburgh-based Signature Group, which operates more than 20 bars, restaurants, hotels and a brewery, including Edinburgh’s Cold Town House, The Huxley, Badger & Co and Kyloe.
