After many years living in the shadow of the Margarita, Mexico’s other iconic drink, the Paloma, is finally getting the recognition it deserves as ‘the next big tequila-based serve’ to catch on with UK cocktail fans.

Overall demand for tequila serves is reportedly at an all-time high, with UK sales predicted to rise by 88% between 2021 and 2026, taking the category to unprecedented heights.

Within that growth, mixer specialists Franklin & Sons described the Paloma as a ‘shining example of the versatility of tequila’, offering a lighter alternative that is perfect for casual, summer-time sipping.

Combining the spirit with grapefruit soda and lime juice, the Paloma is a refreshing and elegant serve offering a citrusy kick that, according to Bacardi’s sixth annual Cocktail Trends Report, is shaking up the industry and challenging the Margarita monopoly.

Franklin & Sons noted that its own Pink Grapefruit Soda works well in a Paloma, enhancing the serves with ‘a creative twist that packs extra flavour’.

Brand manager Lauren Edwards said: “As we raise a glass to World Paloma Day, it’s a great opportunity to toast to bold flavours and vibrant culture.

“Palomas are currently at the centre of attention and we expect to see a significant surge in customer demand for our Pink Grapefruit Soda.”
