Sponsored Brand Spotlight: Badachro Distillery

Scotland’s pubs and bars are a major focus for Highland distillery Badachro this year, as the family-owned business looks to grow its footprint in the on-trade.
Founded by Gordon and Vanessa Quinn in 2016 the team, now eight strong, also includes daughter Ashley as brand ambassador.

While the company’s flagship Badachro Gin has carved out a nice niche for itself across the Highlands, it’s Badachro’s Puffin range that will be the focus in the on-trade venues of the central belt.
The award-winning Dancing Puffin Vodka is copper pot-distilled and then filtered five times, while Surfing Puffin is a blend of three Caribbean rums which are vatted together before heather, myrtle and Seville orange are added.
“The Badachro gins are artisan products that are very much designed around provenance,” said Gordon. “The Puffin spirits are more commercial lifestyle brands.”

The rum, launched last year, is the latest addition to the range, introduced at a time when demand for rum is growing.
Gordon said the goal with Surfing Puffin was to differentiate the rum from the many sweeter products on the market, with the addition of heather adding some subtle sweetness that is balanced by the herbal notes of the myrtle and the bitterness of the Seville orange.
And the company has the independent on-trade of the central belt squarely in its sights as it looks to grow sales of both Dancing Puffin and Surfing Puffin. Gordon said the company will support any venue that takes the spirits on as house pours through initiatives such as activations or additional stock.
That isn’t the only area of expansion for Badachro.
The company already bottles whisky under the Bad na h-Achlaise (pronounced ‘bad-na-hash-lich’) brand name, but will be moving into small-batch single malt production itself later this year, with the aim of filling its first barrels before the end of the year.
Badachro’s spirits are available directly from the distillery or from wholesalers including Inverarity Morton, Williamson, Sutherland Bros, Select Drams and Ellis Wines.
