Seamless, an electronic point-of-sale system provider headquartered in Edinburgh, is entering 2025 with a renewed focus on supporting small hospitality businesses in an increasingly challenging market.

Founded by Robin Knox and Paul Walton, the company claims to combine ‘years of industry insight’ with a commitment to making technology more accessible and flexible for independent operators.

Knox and Walton first made their mark on the hospitality technology landscape with the creation of Intelligent Point of Sale, a pioneering solution that quickly became a trusted name in the industry before being acquired by iZettle in 2016.

Having since spent time refining their vision and reconnecting with the needs of small business owners, the duo launched Seamless as a ‘fresh venture’ to address the gaps they saw in the market, particularly the challenges caused by payment lock-ins, high fees, and one-size-fits-all systems.

Knox and Walton say they have built their new offer around key principles designed to help UK hospitality businesses thrive:

  • Freedom of choice – Seamless adopts an open approach to payment integration, empowering businesses to choose providers that best fit their needs without being tied into restrictive contracts;
  • Fairness and Transparency – With a pricing model tailored to smaller operators, the app aims to deliver maximum value without hidden costs;
  • Hospitality-led design – Developed by former operators, the platform is ‘intuitive and optimised for hybrid hospitality models, perfect for cafes, restaurants, food trucks, and pubs’;
  • Resilience and reliability – Recognising the connectivity challenges many businesses face, Seamless is designed to operate effectively even in low-connectivity environments.

While focussing on addressing the current needs of hospitality operators, Knox and Walton are also innovating for the future.

To that end, their company is exploring the use of Vision AI to simplify menu management, allowing operators to upload and digitise their menus directly into the EPOS system with minimal effort.

Alongside this, they are developing new features such as Kitchen Display Systems (KDS) and integrations with delivery platforms to streamline operations for hybrid models.

Recognising the growing demand for flexibility and speed in service, the company is also building apps for card payment terminals that will enable tableside ordering, enhancing both customer experience and operational efficiency.

Knox said: “Paul and I started Seamless because we know how tough running a hospitality business can be.

“We’ve been there ourselves. Our goal is to make life easier for operators, giving them the freedom to run their businesses the way they want, without being tied into unfair deals or expensive systems that aren’t built with them in mind.

“These new innovations reflect our commitment to helping UK hospitality businesses thrive both now and in the future.”
