Joining the fray is the newly opened Star Hotel in Kingussie, near Aviemore, a 21-bedroomed retreat with a restaurant, a cocktail bar, and a sports bar.
The hotel has undergone a full refurbishment over the past 18 months to bring the facilities up to a 4-star standard.

The Jacobite Bar & Grill restaurant offers hearty British cuisine in a relaxed, family-friendly environment, with a variety of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options included, and wine list that promises to complement every dish.
The Wolf sports bar is named after Alexander Stewart, Earl of Buchan, who was the infamous Wolf of Badenoch, the third son of King Robert II of Scotland.
His bar has 50 seats set within a modern, vibrant colour scheme, with live sports on multiple flat screen TVs.

The entire property has been ‘thoughtfully decorated’ with modern furnishings and colour palettes, to ‘create a relaxing retreat’.
The Star Hotel is part of the VisitCairngorms ‘Where Winter Comes to Life!’ campaign, which is showcasing the National Park’s winter attractions, including the UK’s only free-ranging reindeer herd at Glenmore, Balmoral Castle & Estate at Crathie, Aviemore Ice Rink, Tomintoul & Glenlivet Dark Sky Park, Dalwhinnie Distillery, Landmark Forest Adventure Park at Carrbridge, Loch Insh Outdoor Centre at Kincraig and the Highland Wildlife Park.
The campaign aims to extend the season and bring business to local visitor economies over the quieter winter months, with a focus on outdoor adventure, wildlife and nature, health and wellbeing, food and drink, culture and heritage.
Visitors are being encouraged to enjoy winter sports, stargazing and cycling, guided wildlife-spotting adventures and opportunities to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.
