Vittoria Group launches Landy’s, a classic coastal chippy on the Royal Mile

Alberto, Leandro and Tony Crolla are bringing classic fish’n’chips from the coast to the heart of the Capital

British seaside nostalgia is at the heart of the latest venture from the Edinburgh based Vittoria Group, which has reimagined a prime site in Edinburgh’s Old Town as a classic coastal chippy.

Landy’s Restaurant on the Royal Mile is the hospitality group’s latest venture in the capital, having opened its first restaurant in 1970 in the Leith neighbourhood.

The 7000 sq.ft unit – the former Byron Burger site on 29-31 North Bridge – is now on a mission to give diners a ‘proper fish and chips’ experience, with an affordable menu featuring classics, specialities and ‘contemporary twists’ on the traditional chippy offering.

Slap bang in the middle of Edinburgh’s touristic ground zero, the 200-cover restaurant, set over two floors, promises ‘Scottish charm and British seaside nostalgia’ with fresh battered fish and piping hot chips at its heart.

Other chip shop classics on the menu include battered pork sausage, haggis, black pudding, white pudding and that famed Scottish-Italian fusion, the deep fried pizza crunch supper.

Away from the traditional fish, the menu also offers cajun spiced haddock, lemon and herb baked haddock and vegan fish and chips, as well as hearty dishes like steak pie, steak burger, haggis neeps and tatties, mac’n’cheese, and a daily changing homemade pie.

For dessert, sticking with the chippy theme, there’s Landy’s deep fried Mars Bar – ‘crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside’.

Vittoria Group director Alberto Crolla said: “The capital’s lively Old Town is the ideal location to expand our restaurant business to new and existing customers.

“Following the enormous success of our sister restaurant, Bertie’s on Victoria Street, Landy’s provides dining comfort food at its finest. We want to recreate the nostalgic appeal of fish and chips on the beach or by the sea with classic chip shop dishes at the heart of the menu.”

The freshly refitted eating area features a mix of navy and red designs, with ropes and anchors interwoven throughout, marrying a seaside vibe with an open kitchen, to provide diners with a ‘fun theatre-like dining experience’.

Local design team Significant Others along with the main contractor Severinos were appointed by Vittoria Group to develop its £2 million investment in Landy’s.

No less than 70 new jobs have been created with the expansion of the Vittoria Group’s restaurant portfolio in Edinburgh and the Lothians, which now includes Divino Enoteca, Vittoria on the Bridge, Vittoria on the Walk, Berties, Taste of Italy, and Brunswick Book Club.
