Café Andaluz Stockbridge reaches meatball milestone as it celebrates first birthday

Members of the Edinburgh Academical Rugby team popped into Café Andaluz for meatballs

Edinburgh restaurant Café Andaluz Stockbridge has claimed that, in its first year in business, it sold so many spanish meatballs that their total weight matched that of the Edinburgh Academicals Rugby team.

The brand, now in its 22nd year, first opened its doors on Creswell Lane in the West End of Glasgow and since then has welcomed an estimated 7.3 million customers through its doors.

The Stockbridge venue is the third Café Andaluz restaurant to open in the capital, and the seventh in the UK.

Over its first year, visitors to the Raeburn Place restaurant have enjoyed a whopping 25,000 Albongidas – that’s those Spanish meatballs – as well as 16,000 portions of patatas bravas, 10,500 croquetas, 9500 calamares and 9000 dishes of gambas pil pil.

To celebrate the first birthday of the Café Andaluz brand in Stockbridge, the restaurant had the entire Edinburgh Accies team in for a meatball dinner.

Area general manager Ailsa Reid, who has been with Café Andaluz for over 15 years, said: “We’ve absolutely loved being part of the vibrant Stockbridge community and its fantastic culinary scene.

“This venue has a family feel, and it’s been wonderful welcoming both regulars and visitors through our doors.

Meatballs!

“When we realised just how much tapas we’d served, we knew we had to invite our good friends at the Edinburgh Accies to celebrate our first year in Stockbridge – especially as the meatballs alone matched the team’s weight!”
