Glasgow bar launches Wicked-themed cocktails for blockbuster release

Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Witches Glinda and Elphaba.

Bar operators have learned the lesson of last summer’s movie blockbuster season, when the equal-but-opposite cinematic attractions of Barbie and Oppenheimer brought footfall back into city centres, in the mood for themed drinks after doing the dolls-and-desolation double.

But while Barbenheimer’s bar boost leaned heavily on dayglo pink, the latest sensation to sweep into the cinemas comes complete with a dual colour palette, as the movie of Broadway musical Wicked pits the pink (again) Good Witch of the West, Glinda, against the refreshingly green Wicked Witch of the East, Elphaba.

Quick onto this Oz bandwagon was Glasgow city centre’s Citizen Bar, which created a pair of witchy-themed cocktails to celebrate the release, and draw in the expected hordes of friend groups making a night of it.

The Citizen Bar was offering the pink-hued Popular Potion and green Witch’s Brew over the movie’s launch weekend.

Manager Erika Riposati said: “With pink and green outfits set to fill the streets of Glasgow ahead of the film’s release, we wanted to join in the fun.”
