Scottish gin producers celebrate three-star success at Great Taste Awards

Scottish gin makers were among those celebrating after securing coveted three-star ratings via the Great Taste Awards scheme.

The initiative, operated by the Guild of Fine Foods, recognises quality food and drink products from across the UK each year, awarding them one, two or three stars.

The organisation claims that only 2% of products are awarded three-star status, describing those products as ‘exquisite’.

Scottish producers including Gin Bothy, Lussa Gin and Great Glen Distillery secured three-star accreditation in this year’s accolades, with other producers taking one and two-star status, respectively.

Gin Bothy’s raspberry-infused gin liqueur secured the top Great Taste rating of three stars this year, with Lussa Gin on the Isle of Skye securing three stars for its core Lussa Gin.

Great Glen Distillery in Inverness was awarded three stars for its Great Glen Premium Scottish Gin.

Kim Cameron, who founded Gin Bothy in 2014, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to receive this recognition for our Raspberry Gin. This award is particularly special as the raspberry liqueur was one of the first fruit-infused gins we created nearly ten years ago.

“From selecting the finest local raspberries to carefully infusing them with our signature gin, every step of our production process is a labour of love.

“By blending time-honoured techniques with the best local produce, we make sure every bottle is something special.”

The Great Taste win has topped a tenth anniversary year for Gin Bothy that has included moving into new premises in order to increase production capacity and the launch of its Jam Bothy brand of jams and marmalades.
