An Australian comedy wine-tasting show will have its UK premiere at the imminent Edinburgh Fringe – helped out by two leading lights of the local wine scene.
After sell-out shows across Australia, comedians Sweeney Preston and Ethan Cavanagh are bringing their ‘In Pour Taste: A Comedy Wine Tasting Experience’ to the Assembly Roxy from August 1st to 25th, where they promise to guide audiences through tasting five wines, and ‘at least five jokes’.
Sweeney and Ethan will be joined at each performance by one of two local wine experts – Murray Ainslie, who owns and operates award-winning Royal Mile wine bar and restaurant The Black Grape, and Leith’s neighbourhood taco spot Paloma; and Niina Cunynghame-Lang, who holds a Diploma in Wine and Spirits and has been in the wine trade for over a decade, starting her career importing Burgundy to the UK.
The show’s blurb declares: “Everyone from savvy sauvignon swiggers to clueless chardonnay chuggers will find something to make their glass half-full, as the wine industry’s hardest-hitting questions are answered.”
The ticket price includes five tastings, with an alcohol-free option.
Awards for ‘In Pour Taste: A Comedy Wine Tasting Experience’ include Best Eat and Drink Award at the Adelaide Fringe 2024, and and Best Comedy Weekly, Perth Fringe 2024.
