Edinburgh’s bar scene has a new addition with the launch of Lochrin on the top floor of the Moxy Edinburgh Fountainbridge in Freer Gait, close to the city centre.
Described as ‘a lavish, moody and opulent cocktail bar’ decorated in dark green and red hues, extensive investment has created a gentle reminder of a speakeasy gentleman’s club, with a ‘warm, cosy, elegant vibe’.
But head outside onto its rooftop terrace and there’s impressive views across the skyline of Edinburgh towards the castle.
Lochrin is named in a nod to the industrial heritage of Edinburgh’s Fountainbridge area, where once stood the Lochrin gin distillery built by Edinburgh businessman James Haig, who back in 1780 was one of the key players in Edinburgh’s early gin scene.
Wayne Androliakos, regional director of operations said: “We’ve invested heavily into creating something very different for Edinburgh. Once you step out of the lift and onto the 6th floor, guests will be transported to an eclectic bar, where guests can imbibe in their choice of drinks whilst soaking in the incredible views across the city.
“With summer on the horizon, now is the perfect time to launch it.”
On offer in Lochrin will be speciality cocktails that pay homage to the history of Edinburgh, while a selection of small foodie tapas style plates and meat or cheese sharing boards will complement and pair with that cocktail list, alongside an extensive collection of rare and aged Scotch whiskies, local gins, craft beers, wines and champagnes.
Aiming for a chilled and relaxed vibe during the week, Lochrin will be enhanced at weekends with a range of live events promoting local talent. On set dates, guests will be able to sit back and enjoy black and white movies and iconic Scottish films that will be shown on the built-in cinema screen.
