European ‘hybrid hospitality’ arrives in Glasgow’s Merchant City

‘Unique hybrid hospitality concept’ The Social Hub opens its doors in Glasgow this week, continuing its expansion across Europe with this its first UK location.

Other hubs are located in European cities including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Florence, Madrid, Vienna and most recently, San Sebastián, which was inaugurated earlier this year.

Glasgow’s new iteration of the brand is located in the Merchant City, and features a combination of 494 hotel, student and extended stay rooms and spaces where a ‘diverse community’ of travellers, students, business people, and neighbours can come to ‘learn, stay, work and play’.

With room for up to 222 co-workers daily, The Social Hub Glasgow offers a variety of flexible memberships and dedicated desks, private offices, meeting and event spaces, alongside an auditorium, a gym, restaurant and bar, and a schedule of curated events, workshops and ‘social moments’.

“The Social Hub believes a better society is created when people with vision and talent come together from all walks of life,” said the group.

“The organisation works towards achieving this social impact objective and generating concrete value to the communities in which it operates by designing unique spaces that foster community building, coupled by an unparalleled programme of community experiences, and an ongoing commitment to monitoring the impact of its business operations.”

The Social Hub Glasgow is launching with help from a selection of ‘like-minded’ local suppliers, including:

  • Sea Change Wine – ethically sourced and eco-friendly white, red and rosé wines;
  • Dear Green – local B Corp coffee business;
  • Paddy and Scott’s – UK based coffee business sharing its profits with the families and communities that grow their coffee;
  • Brewgooder – whose aim is to allow drinkers to make a positive difference with every pint enjoyed, funding projects that empower communities;
  • Arbikie – gin and vodka distillery using local produce and solar power so the distilling process, from start to finish, uses negligible miles;
  • Vinca Wine  – award winning, canned, organic wines made from organic grapes.

The food and drink served at The Social Hub promises to cater to a wide range of tastes and appetites; from Scottish seafood bowls, crispy falafel and vegan haggis spring rolls to select Glasgow comfort food favourites such as a signature smoked pork cheeks. The full buffet breakfast also provides the best possible start to the day, with healthy options including plant-based coconut yoghurt and avocado on sourdough, to the chef’s Scottish signature breakfast hash.
