In a gesture of ‘support and commitment’ towards the Armed Forces, Ayrshire golf resort Trump Turnberry has signed the Armed Forces Covenant.
This covenant is described as ‘a pledge to acknowledge and understand that those who serve or who have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives’.
Trump Turnberry and 17 other organisations in the Scottish Lowlands signed the covenant at a special event held late last month, beginning with a business breakfast at the resort, where participants gathered for networking, shared insights and celebrations to mark the occasion.
Lieutenant Colonel Lee Curson, Commanding Officer of 6 SCOTS within The Royal Regiment of Scotland, represented the Armed Forces at the occasion, and gave each organisation their copy of the Covenant.
The celebrations continued with a military golf competition on Trump Turnberry’s Ailsa Course, which involved service personnel from The Royal Navy, The British Army, The Royal Air Force and Veterans vying for top place.
The organisation of this occasion was facilitated by the Lowland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association, an agency that works with the Ministry of Defence to ‘bridge defence and civilian understanding’. Trump Turnberry offers preferential rates for all armed service personnel and veterans.
General manager Ralph Porciani said: “This pledge symbolises not just our respect and appreciation for those who serve and have served, but also our commitment to ensuring they are treated with the fairness and respect they richly deserve.
“We are honoured to have hosted this landmark event, reinforcing the bonds between the military and civilian communities and very much hope that is this signing underscores our deep gratitude and unwavering support for our Armed Forces, veterans, and their families.”
Chief Executive of Lowland RFCA, Colonel Ted Shields MBE DL, said: “For employers and Reservists at Turnberry on Tuesday morning, the recognition they received demonstrated just how much they are valued – by Defence for sure but by society much more widely.
“The splendid event brought together Forces-friendly employers from across the region, all committed to ensuring Defence people can flourish both in their military and civilian lives. Well done to all who have made this pledge.”
