With the festive season behind us, and abstinence in the ascendant, do not forget Scottish hospitality’s secret winter weapon – Burns Night!
So while the storm without might rair and rustle, January’s footfall can still be bolstered by paying a bit of attention to the bard, and his traditional accompaniments of whisky, haggis and vernacular verse.
Past masters of this strategy are the team at family-run bar and restaurant, the Mercat Grill in Whitecraig, East Lothian, who will once again be boosting their month with a special Burn’s Themed Whisky Tasting & Lunch on Saturday 20th January.
To celebrate the life of Robert Burns, the Mercat’s ‘light-hearted, fun and sociable’ whisky tasting lunch will allow guests to sample three exclusive single malt whiskies and dine on the freshest, locally sourced haggis, neeps and tatties, all for a very reasonable £40 per head.
If you prefer your whisky without poetry or performance, all year round, The Mercat Grill maintains a collection of around 390 whiskies, available by the glass.
