South American style ‘churrasco’ dining is coming to a prime Edinburgh site in the new year, with the opening of the first RIO steakhouse north of the border.
Located in the Assembly Rooms on George Street, in what was formerly a Jamie’s Italian, the new Edinburgh RIO will be the brand’s eighth location since it was established in the English north-east’s Jesmond in November 2019.
A key feature of the brand’s offer is its set price for ‘non-stop’ meats, plus an unlimited gourmet salad bar, which its owners hope will create a ‘competitive alternative’ to the city’s other steakhouses.
The new 150-cover restaurant will open late daily, featuring an open kitchen where guests will be able to watch chefs preparing the food, and a ‘vast’ salad bar lining the walls with an array of imported cheeses, cured meats and authentic Brazilian dishes for diners to choose from at their leisure.
A variety of cuts of meat will be continuously carved at the table in a traditional Rodizio style, with guests allowed to ‘decide the pace’ of their dining experience themselves.
Co-owner of the RIO Brazilian Steakhouse brand, Rodrigo Grassi, said: “We are thrilled to announce that RIO Brazilian Steakhouse will be opening in Scotland for the first time early next year. A milestone moment for us, we can’t wait to bring the delicious South American flavours to Edinburgh – one of the UK’s most exciting foodie cities – and look forward to introducing our unique offerings to the Scottish market.”
The expansion into Edinburgh will also bring a number of employment opportunities to the local area, with plans to recruit team members for a range of roles. Interested applicants are encouraged to get in touch with their CVs by contacting careers@rio-steakhouse.co.uk.
