Glasgow’s west end has a stylish new Indian fusion restaurant and cocktail bar, recently opened by the R Group.
The Marigold Café, sitting on Park Road near hospitality favourites Eusebi Deli, The Doublet pub and the Shish Mahal, sees R Group founders, brothers Bubbles and Rahul Randev, returning to their roots with Indian-influenced food and drink menus.
With 35 plus years of experience in hospitality, the brothers also operate Milngavie’s Garvie & Co, the Crescent in Finnieston, and a variety of venues in Bishopbriggs and Lenzie, offering a range of cuisines and styles.
For this new west end venture, the décor notes are ‘luxurious and sumptuous’, aiming to be the perfect spot for a leisurely brunch or a fun night with friends enjoying the cocktails and bar bites, all while overlooking the River Kelvin which runs to the back of the venue.
The menu combines authentic Indian cooking with a refreshing fusion of various international influences.
For brunch, The Marigold will offer a ‘loaded breakfast naan’ that is essentially a ‘full Scottish’ packed inside of a freshly stone baked naan bread topped with chilli jam. Those with a sweeter tooth might enjoy a chai spiced croissant or the warm waffles with pistachio yogurt, cardamom and fresh fruit.
In the evening, the kitchen team will offer up sharing plates such as the Prawn Biryani Bon Bons and the MFC (Marigold Fried Chicken) crisped to perfection. Another crowd pleaser with guests so far is the Bombay Hasselback Potatoes, spiced and infused with coriander, chilli and coconut yogurt.
At the bar, cocktail enthusiasts can look forward to exciting creations curated by the Marigold’s mixologists, like unusual spice infused cocktails such as The Chaitini, which includes Walla Liquer (a unique liqueur that blends five spices including cinnamon, clove, cardamon, ginger and vanilla), Ketel One, Espresso and Sugar, or a twist on a classic with the Patola Paloma that includes Olmeca Silver, Green Tabasco, pink grapefruit, rose lemonade, fresh lime and sugar.
Rahul Randev commented: “We have always had a desire to open a stylish cocktail and wine bar in the west end that also offers exceptional plates of food in beautiful surroundings. We think by marrying all of these elements together we have created something quite special with The Marigold Cafe and so far the feedback has been extremely encouraging.”
