Monkey Shoulder, the malt whisky ‘made for mixing’, has launched its Ultimate Bartender Championship for 2023, promising that the contest will be bigger and better than ever.
Designed to test ‘the skills that pay the bills’, the championship is an opportunity for the UK’s bartenders to prove their cocktail making prowess, alongside their general trade knowledge and skills.
Kicking off on August 1st with four heats across the UK, in Cardiff, Leeds, London and Glasgow, the Ultimate Bartender Championship will then culminate in an Edinburgh-based final where the 2023 champion will be crowned.
Each regional heat will feature five initial rounds – a quiz, pouring, nosing, table service, and crucially, acing the perfect daiquiri.
The four contestants with the highest scores from those first five rounds then go through to the final challenge; a head-to-head contest to show off their bar service game.
Contestants are not required to be a professional to take part. Whether it’s been ten days or ten years working in the industry, Monkey Shoulder wants to welcome all bartenders and new-comers alike.
At the grand finale of the championship in Edinburgh’s iconic Dragonfly cocktail bar on September 20th, the top two contestants from each heat will battle it out for the coveted title of Ultimate Bartender and the chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to Tales of the Cocktail 2024 and a guest shift at the ultimate Monkey Shoulder party in New Orleans.
