Science or sacrilege? The Alchemist automates whisky cocktails

Naked Malt whisky has partnered with Glasgow’s The Alchemist to introduce an automated whisky cocktail ‘Dispensary’ to the venue.

The ‘Naked Malt Dispensary’ offers three cocktail serves – a highball style ‘Peach Fuzz’; a take on an old-fashioned in ‘Nearly Naked’; and a short cocktail in ‘Sour Trip’.

This selection offers a variety of flavour profiles and styles, and encourages customer interaction – with the stated intention of removing any ‘barrier of entry to the dark spirit category’.

Marketing director at Edrington UK, Neil Skinner, explained: “The ‘Naked Malt Dispensary’ offers a chance to enjoy a completely new experience of whisky drinking with Naked Malt. We are thrilled to bring the machine to The Alchemist, Glasgow, a valued partner in the hospitality industry.

“The Alchemist shares Naked Malt’s key values of excitement and innovation in the cocktail space, whilst at the same time upholding its commitment to incredible hospitality and outstanding quality in everything we do.”

Occupying a focal point in the newly-opened George Square venue, the design of the machine reflects Naked Malt’s production story, showcasing colours redolent of the sherry oak casks used in the whisky’s maturation process.

Head of Bars at The Alchemist, Jonathan Fraser-Prinn, said: “At The Alchemist, our talented bartenders use creative serves and theatre delivered over the bar to challenge our guests’ perception of what is possible in the drinks space.

“In March 2022, we had a vision to install a unique drinks activation in our new Glasgow venue, but we knew we needed to do things a little more out-of-the-box. So, we set out with our friends at Edrington UK and Naked Malt to create a machine which mirrored the magic of our complex serves. And thus, The Dispensary was born.”
