MORAY’S AULTMORE Distillery is to benefit from a £15million expansion which will see its production capacity doubled by spring 2024.
Aultmore is currently celebrating the 125th anniversary of going into production back in 1897, when it was founded by Morayshire businessman and philanthropist, Alexander Edward.
For the last 25 years or so, Aultmore has been part of Bacardi’s Scotch stable, alongside Aberfeldy, Royal Brackla, Craigellachie, and Macduff, which also contribute to the Dewar’s and William Lawson’s blends.
Bacardi’s Niall Mitchell commented: “We have an incredibly skilled and innovative team here in Scotland and we are so proud of the success of the whisky portfolio we produce. As more and more people around the world discover and fall in love with these drinks, we are investing in their growth for the long-term.”
The company’s Scotch portfolio is proving to be particularly popular in Asia, where it has grown 30% over the last five years.
The works at Aultmore involve the addition of fermenters, pot-stills and infrastructure, plus a new heat-recovering system which will reduce the distillery’s energy usage and carbon footprint.
“Aultmore Distillery has a long history and association with quality spirit, and the success of our single malt is a testament to those past and present who have played their part in crafting it,” said distillery manager Ross Bremner. “As we get started on our exciting expansion plans to increase production, it’s an honour for those of us here today to play an integral part in the future of this beautiful whisky.”
To celebrate the 125th anniversary, a limited edition bottling of Aultmore single malt will soon be on sale exclusively at Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery and online.
