IN A breakthrough for ‘functional’ alcohol alternatives, CBD drinks brand TRIP has announced a partnership with leading drinks distributor and manufacturer, C&C group.
CBD (Cannabidiol) is one of 113 identified cannabinoids that can be extracted from cannabis plants. Unlike other cannabinoids – in particular THC – CBD is not psycho-active, but it has been the subject of clinical research into its effects on human anxiety, cognition, movement disorders, and pain.
While that research has been inconclusive, the plant extract has acquired a strong reputation as a health supplement, with the value of the UK CBD market estimated at £690million in 2021 and expected to be £1 billion by 2025.
Now, led by brands like TRIP, premium zero-alcohol drinks containing CBD are poised to take advantage of growth in the ‘low&no’ category.
Co-founder at TRIP, Olivia Ferdi, said: “TRIP has proven successful in the UK nationwide as an elevated and truly functional alcohol alternative. As the category leader with 89% of the market share of UK CBD drinks, C&C are the natural partner to deepen our work in the on-trade partnering with their best-in-class expertise and reach.
“Our mission has always been to share calm in the everyday chaos, with next-generation wellbeing products to power your lifestyle,” she added.
Commercial Director at C&C group, Clara Shand, said: “Our new partnership with TRIP CBD is an exciting next step in increasing our range of low and no partners. TRIP has revolutionised the low and no space as the leading CBD brand in Europe.
“Its stylish packaging and innovative marketing campaigns have led to fantastic growth in the UK, and we can’t wait to work together to drive distribution of TRIP.’
