Sagar Massey, chef of The Rabbit Restaurant at Marine Troon, will this weekend be seen competing in the final of MasterChef: The Professionals – having sailed through the various heats of the televised competition.
The 23-year-old was one of 32 ambitious chefs selected from across the country to vie for the title of 2022 Champion of the popular BBC series.
Over the last six weeks, those 32 have been whittled down to three finalists, with Sagar very much still in with a shot at the top spot, having consistently impressed judges and guests with both his innovative cookery skills, and utterly unflappable attitude in a very high-pressure environment.
Since moving to the UK from Bulandshahr, New Delhi, in 2014, Sagar’s talent as a chef has shone through. Throughout his time at West College of Scotland studying Professional Cookery, he was a finalist for Young National Chef of The Year (2020 and 2021); was awarded a gold medal at the Young Scottish Chef of The Year (2019); and won UK Young Seafood Chef of The Year (2018).
Ahead of transmission, Sagar said: ‘‘It has been a career highlight to take part in MasterChef: The Professionals. I had the privilege of cooking alongside some of the best talents in the country, which was exciting. I can’t wait to watch it together with my family and friends.’’
