Coronavirus: grants to support businesses now open

GRANTS announced by the Scottish Government as part of the £2.2 billion package to support businesses manage the impact of the coronavirus pandemic are now open.

Ratepayers of hospitality, leisure and retail business, with a rateable value between £18,001 and £50,999, are able to apply for a grant of £25,000 from today (March 24).

Ratepayers of small businesses with rateable value up to £18,000 who benefit from the small business bonus scheme or rural relief are also able to apply for a one-off grant of £10,000.

The Scottish Government said grant payments should be made by local authorities within 10 working days.

Businesses which deem themselves eligible to apply for a grant are advised to contact their local authorities.

Kate Forbes, cabinet secretary for finance, said: “We are determined to help keep companies in business and support them and their staff during this difficult time.

“Local authorities are the most efficient way to deliver this and we have worked closely with them to deliver these measures – and eligible businesses can apply now.

“Local authorities will aim to make payments within ten working days, and I’d like to thank them for their help in ensuring this support is delivered as quickly as possible.”
