OPERATORS from across Scotland were among the winners at this week’s Star Pubs & Bars Star Awards.

The event, which took place in Bedfordshire on February 4, was attended by 250 people and came after a ten-month judging process involving pub visits and interviews with licensees and staff.

Scottish winners at the event included Steve and Hazel Latto of The Criterion in St Andrews, who picked up the Pint Perfection award; Celeste McGinn of Denholms in Glasgow, who won Best Bar Team; Alison and Hannah Mitchell of The Dreel Tavern in Anstruther, who secured Best Wine; Nick Robinson of Bar Tonic in Edinburgh, who took the award for Best Spirits; Michele Civiera of The High Dive in Edinburgh, who won Best Marketing; Neil Douglas and Billy McAneney of Ardnamurchan in Glasgow, who took the Best Food award; The Winking Owl in Aviemore, which was named Best Cask Ale Pub; and Marc Ferrier of The Thornwood in Glasgow, who took the title of Newcomer of the Year.

Star Pubs & Bars managing director, Lawson Mountstevens, said: “Pub-goers demand more than ever and the Star Award winners demonstrate how licensees are stepping up their game to deliver fantastic experiences across all categories and occasions.

“The Star Awards nominees are all raising the bar and creating outstanding, individual pubs that are much valued and loved by the communities they serve. The competition was intense and it was a tremendous accolade to be singled out.”
