‘Brave’ cider bags global gong

EAST Lothian-based cider maker Thistly Cross has won gold in the World Cider Awards for its Whisky Cask Cider.

Matured in ex-distillery casks, sourced from Glen Moray Distillery in Speyside, Whisky Cask Cider is said to possess a “unique character”.

Awards judges complimented its balanced wood influence, adding that it is “a brave cider, where flavours of banana mix with caramel and smoke”.

Thistly Cross also took home a silver award for its Real Elderflower Cider. Blended with real elderflower blossoms, it is said to offer “a distinctive and zesty” flavour profile.

Peter Stuart, head cider maker at Thistly Cross, said the award wins are “testament to the passion and skill our team brings to the cider making process”.

“It’s a fantastic way to celebrate Thistly Cross’s tenth anniversary”, added Stuart.
