WITH the spookiest time of the year upon us, there could still be time to take a few last-minute steps to help frighten up a little more business over the next few days.
According to syrups producer Monin, “the odd ghoulish decoration behind the bar and Thriller on repeat will no longer inspire the increasingly expectant consumer”.
And so the company has provided a few top tips and suggested serves to help licensees make the most of Halloween.
Advice includes introducing some themed drinks (recipes below); creating a ‘trick or treat’ menu where customers can choose between one of the themed drinks or a different, ‘trick’ serve containing unusual flavours; and introducing Halloween-themed garnishes such as spooky sweets or dry ice. Alternately, operators can cut a corner and just temporarily rename one of their existing drinks to fit with the occasion (for example overloading a hot chocolate with whipped cream and chocolate curls and calling it Death By Hot Chocolate).
The suggested serves are:
The Poison Apple
20ml Monin Apple Pie syrup
50ml gin
20ml lemon juice
25ml apple juice
0.5 grams charcoal powder
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass or goblet. Garnish with an apple slice.
Creepy Crawly Frappé
30ml Monin Chocolate Cookie syrup
1 scoop Le Frappé de Monin Vanilla
120ml milk
1 cup of ice
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend for 20 seconds. Pour into a cup and garnish with a selection of creepy crawly-themed toppings.
Spooky Caspa-cino
15ml Monin Vanilla syrup
Double espresso
180ml milk
Add the syrup and double espresso to the cup and steam the milk till frothy. Pour frothed milk into the cup and garnish with goulish toppings.
Don’t Feed the Zombies
30ml Monin Blood Orange syrup
1 scoop Le Frappé de Monin Vanilla
120ml milk
1 cup of ice
Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend for 20 seconds. Pour into a cup and garnish with zombie-themed toppings.
Death by Hot Chocolate
15 ml Monin Chocolate Cookie syrup
Hot chocolate powder
240ml milk
Prepare the hot chocolate and add in the chocolate cookie syrup. Top with whipped cream and a large heaping of chocolate.
