William Grant & Sons launches 0.5% ABV spirit
WILLIAM Grant & Sons has entered the ultra-low-alcohol market with a new spirit made from natural distillates, flavours and extracts.
Bottled at 0.5% ABV, Atopia has been created by master distiller Lesley Gracie with the aim of appealing to consumers who are looking to moderate their alcohol intake without sacrificing on quality.
The distiller said an Atopia and tonic, for example, contains 75 times less alcohol than an equivalent G&T.
Two variants are available: Spiced Citrus and Wild Blossom. Spiced Citrus is said to reflect “the tastes of the seasons”, where a “zesty citrus meets gentle spice for a refreshing and rounded finish”.
Wild Blossom meanwhile is described as “wild by name and by nature”, with hints of green apple meeting floral notes “with a hint of smokiness”.
Said to be well-placed for mixing, both variants of Atopia can be paired with a tonic and garnish, according to William Grant & Sons.
The new Atopia range has launched into the on-trade, initially available in G1 bars.
Tom Stannard, global marketing manager at William Grant & Sons, said: “We are extremely excited to be launching our first ultra-low-alcohol spirit, Atopia.
“Moderation shouldn’t feel like a compromise; it should enable you to do more and with Atopia, people can now fully embrace mindful consumption.”
