LAPHROAIG unveiled this year’s addition to its Càirdeas series in time for this month’s annual Feis Ile whisky festival on Islay.

Càirdeas means friendship in Gaelic and each year a limited edition bottling is created by the distillery manager and made available at the distillery shop as well as to the Friends of Laphroaig fan group.

The Càirdeas Triple Wood Cask Strength is this year’s addition. It is first matured in ex-bourbon barrels, then quarter casks and finished in European oak casks which previously held Oloroso sherry. The malt is then barrier filtered and bottled at cask strength (51.4% ABV) to create what’s described as a “punchy dram with Laphroaig’s signature richness of flavour and smoky taste”.

Burnished gold in colour, the new release is said to deliver polished leather and tobacco leaves on the nose and has a long and sweet finish.

John Campbell, Laphroaig distillery manager, said: “It means a great deal that our fans remain loyal to our liquid and continue to push for newer expressions.

“Friends of Laphroaig gives us a great opportunity to engage with our supporters and give back to them with this exclusive Càirdeas whisky.”
